U.S. Says Kenya Become a Major Hub for Drug Smugglers

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration plans to open an office in Kenya, which has become a hub for drug traffickers, U.S. Ambassador Michael Ranneberger said.

Kenya is a “significant” transit route for cocaine from South America bound mostly for Europe, and a “major” destination for heroin and other narcotics, Ranneberger said today in an e-mailed copy of a speech delivered in Mombasa. Shipments also go to North America, he said.
