Saab, American Axle Partner on Electric Drive Systems

Saab Automobile, the Swedish carmaker owned by Spyker Cars NV, agreed to set up a venture with American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings Inc. to make electric all-wheel drive systems and electric and hybrid drivelines.

The venture will be based in Trollhaettan, where Saab has its headquarters, and will start operating Oct. 1, the automaker said in a statement. Saab will buy components from the venture for use in Saab vehicles from 2012, it said. American Axle is based in Detroit.
