Merkel Appoints Henning Kagermann to Head Panel on Innovation

German Chancellor Angela Merkel appointed Henning Kagermann, the former chief executive officer of SAP AG who is now president of the Deutsche Akademie der Technik, to head a steering group on science and innovation, her office said.

The governemnt plans to consult experts from the fields of science, technology and the economy to prepare Germany to capitalize on new trends in scientific development, the statement said. Science, education and research have been deliberately shielded from budget cuts and will garner more investment in the coming years, Merkel said in the statement.
