Uganda’s ruling party is likely to endorse Yoweri Museveni as its candidate in a presidential election set for February, when he may extend his 24-year rule of a country set to become Africa’s newest oil producer.
Museveni will “easily” defeat his three challengers for the nomination, said Ofwono Opondo, deputy president of the National Resistance Movement. The rivals include Elizabeth Nabatanzi and Daudi Maguru, both former aides to Museveni, Opondo said, without identifying the third.
