Prime Minister Vladimir Putin vowed to abide by the Russian constitution when President Dmitry Medvedev’s term runs out in 2012.

“Roosevelt was elected four times in a row because it didn’t contradict the American constitution,” Putin said on state television today, referring to the 32nd U.S. president, Franklin Delano Roosevelt. “Neither President Medvedev nor I will do anything that violates existing Russian law or our constitution.”
