U.S. Attacks on ‘Cruel’ Taliban to Surge, Gates Says

The U.S. will accelerate attacks on Taliban leaders in Afghanistan in an invigorated effort to improve security and set conditions for a turnover of combat missions to Afghan forces, Defense Secretary Robert Gates said.
The addition 30,000 troops enables a new “tough, hard campaign” with its share of “setbacks and heartbreak,” Gates told the 92nd American Legion National Convention in Milwaukee today. There now are 94,000 U.S. troops in Afghanistan.
