The explosion that killed seven people yesterday in China’s Xinjiang province, the site of ethnic rioting last year, was an attack on law enforcement personnel, a police spokesman said.

The driver of a three-wheeled vehicle threw a bomb at 15 auxiliary police officers at an intersection outside of Aksu, said Xiao Chunfeng, spokesman for the city’s public security bureau. Seven were killed and 14 injured, including law enforcement personnel and local residents, the city government said on its website.
