Henry Aaron is baseball’s greatest link to a time when the grandstands were segregated and the white players showered first.

When he was honored by a fraternal organization in his home state of Alabama, he was reminded that he was welcome in the Elks hall on that night only. The teams he played on in his early years had even numbers of black players -- so they could room together.
