Canadian Bankers Join Fight Over ‘Onerous’ Basel Capital Rules

Canada’s banks, rated the world’s soundest, are joining their counterparts in other countries in opposing proposed new capital regulations, Canadian Bankers Association Chief Executive Officer Nancy Hughes Anthony said.
“The Basel proposals, as they currently are, are too onerous,” Hughes Anthony said today in an interview at Bloomberg’s Ottawa bureau. The changes “could potentially choke the banking industry,” she said.
