Yahoo! Inc.’s 10-year search partnership agreement with Microsoft Corp. that was announced last week contains a significant IP provision, according to a company regulatory filing made yesterday.
Microsoft will have the option to buy a worldwide non-exclusive license to some of Yahoo’s patents for the first six months of the 10-year partnership. These patents relate to providing online service for search and advertising. The filing does not reveal what Microsoft will pay for this license, saying only that the price is “a specified discount from fair market value.’’
