Judge Blocks Merger of Crash-Damage Software Makers

A U.S. judge blocked the proposed $1.4 billion merger of two of the three leading makers of software used by insurance companies to estimate auto-crash damage.
The Federal Trade Commission won a preliminary injunction barring the combination of Chicago-based CCC Information Services Inc. and Mitchell International Inc. The agency challenged the combination last November, arguing the merger would hurt competition.
