Citigroup Inc., the U.S. bank that's slashing jobs and shedding assets following a record fourth-quarter loss, hired Mark Rufeh from Credit Suisse Group to help speed cost cuts at its trading and investment-banking division.

Rufeh, 49, will be chief administrative officer and head of productivity for the Institutional Clients Group, New York-based Citigroup said today in a statement. He will oversee operations, technology, real estate, procurement and corporate services, as well as ``efficiency programs and the management of our cost base,'' according to the statement.
