Who says Japan's job market isn't dynamic? That may have been true years ago when Japan Inc. was handing out jobs for life before the late-'80s bubble economy went poof. Back then, no self-respecting sarariman would have risked a midcareer leap to another company. It would have meant going through a cutthroat application process and then, once accepted, starting over at the lowest corporate rung.

These days, the traditional sarariman has more options, and high school and college grads who can't find a long-term job can still make a living as temp workers. They have Michikatsu Ochi to thank for boosting their job-hunting prospects.
