RWE AG, Germany's second-biggest utility, unexpectedly stopped its Biblis B nuclear reactor yesterday to check some of the screw anchors used in its construction.

The stop came after inspectors from the German state of Hesse, in which the 1,300-megawatt capacity plant is located, discovered problems with similar anchors at the Biblis A plant, which is already stopped, Hesse's Environment Ministry said yesterday in a statement on its Web site. The Biblis B halt was intended to determine whether the same problem occurred there.
