South African to Become First Insured Space Tourist

South African Internet millionaire Mark Shuttleworth will take off aboard a Russian Soyuz rocket tomorrow carrying something no one has ever brought into space: commercial trip insurance.

Aon Space, a unit of U.S. insurance broker Aon Corp., and Axa Corporate Solutions, a unit of Axa SA, the world's biggest insurer, are backing Shuttleworth against events including injury and mechanical failure. The companies are also protecting NASA from liability in case something goes wrong during his visit to the International Space Station.
