In April 1999, Gary Winnick, founder and chairman of Global Crossing Ltd., was featured on the cover of Forbes magazine with the following headline: ``Getting Rich at the Speed of Light.''
Winnick, the magazine reported, had become a billionaire faster than anyone in U.S. history.
