In the five years since he launched our Technology & You column, Steve Wildstrom hasn't changed his mission: He aims to keep people up to date on how personal technology affects their lives at work and at home. As he says, "I still see myself as an advocate for the ordinary person trying to deal with technology that is more of a struggle than it ought to be."

The ordeal we all go through has been an eye-opener for Steve, and he credits his readers. "Thanks to a lot of communications, it has been an education to see just what it is that nontech people have to go through to use technology," he says. And readers may not even know the worst of it. "I see a shocking number of products that simply don't work," he says. "I don't even write about them because I would just be killing trees."
