At the Limited store on New York City's Madison Avenue, racks of trendy ankle-length velvet dresses, bell-bottom pants, and clingy leggings hang untouched by middle-aged women roaming the aisles. Shoppers don't go near the expensive leather and shearling jackets, either. Instead, they rifle through discounted mock turtlenecks and oversize sweaters. Even so, sales are slow.
