Regarding "Backed against the wall at Baxter" (Top of the News, Sept. 27): Baxter's ValueLink program, a just-in-time distribution service, is a high-end service that, you assert, may be topping out in a time of bottom-line thinking for hospitals. The article also suggests that ValueLink is seen by hospital buyers as a way for Baxter to supplant competitors' products with those of its own.

This is an unfair portrayal of our business. First, ValueLink helps hospitals save money by taking labor, capital, and space costs out of their supply-replenishment system.
