Congo’s New Cabinet Favors President Kabila as Opposition Splits

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s second-largest opposition party expelled three officials for joining the government, amid uncertainty over whether the country will hold democratic elections in 2016.
The Movement for the Liberation of Congo ordered Secretary-General Thomas Luhaka to leave along with Germain Kambinga and Omer Egwake, according to a statement issued yesterday by the party in the capital, Kinshasa. President Joseph Kabila on Dec. 7 appointed Luhaka as a deputy prime minister, while naming Kambinga as minister of industry and putting Egwake in charge of the urban-planning ministry.
