Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy, who tackled deficits with the help of a record tax increase, withstood a challenge from Republican Tom Foley, who conceded.

Malloy, a 59-year-old Democrat, had 50.8 percent of the vote, while Foley had 48.1 percent with 99 percent of precincts reporting, according to preliminary results from the Associated Press, which hasn’t called the race. That amounts to a difference of about 28,600 ballots.
