Turkish Tape Puts Erdogan at Heart of Graft, Rivals Say

The release of another audio tape allegedly placing Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the center of a bribery scheme show he’s become a source of instability for his country, the main opposition party charged.
Erdogan’s office wouldn’t comment when contacted by phone today about the tape released on YouTube late yesterday, the latest in a series of recordings in which he purportedly discusses illicitly obtained funds. The Turkish leader dismissed an earlier tape as bogus. There is no way to verify the authenticity of the recordings, which have deepened the political and financial turmoil that has engulfed Turkey since allegations of government corruption emerged in December.
