How to Listen for Racism on the Campaign Trail: Jeffrey Goldberg
Jan. 31 (Bloomberg) -- Here are some things you couldlearn about black Americans from the recent statements andinsinuations of Republican presidential candidates,Republican congressmen and Republican-friendly radiopersonalities:
Black people have lost the desire to perform a day’swork. Black people rely on food stamps provided to them bywhite taxpayers. Black people, including Barack andMichelle Obama, believe that the U.S. owes them somethingbecause they are black. Black children should work asjanitors in their high schools as a way to keep them frombecoming pimps. And the pathologies afflicting blackAmericans are caused partly by the Democratic Party, whichhas created in them a dependency on government notdissimilar to the forced dependency of slaves on theirowners.
