A probationary sentence was “manifestly inadequate,” or wrong in principle, for a judge’s niece who assaulted a police officer, the Department of Justice said today as it plans to seek a review of her punishment.
Amina Mariam Bokhary, the niece of Court of Final Appeal Justice Kemal Bokhary, was sentenced by a magistrate to 12 months probation, Radio Television Hong Kong reported on Aug. 2. It was Bokhary’s third conviction for assaulting police, following cases in 2002 and 2008, the South China Morning Post reported.
