Pei is a major shareholder of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., the largest supplier of electric vehicle batteries in the world. The Ningde, China-based company had revenue of 423 billion yuan ($59 billion) in 2025. Pei is also chairman of Suzhou TA&A Ultra Clean Technology, a provider of antistatic cleaning technology.
The majority of Pei's fortune is derived from his stake in Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., a battery products manufacturer. CATL is the largest supplier of electric vehicle batteries in the world, according to its website.
Pei owns about 5% of CATL's Shenzhen-listed shares through his majority stake in Ningbo Lianhe, according to the company's filing to the Hong Kong stock exchange in June 2025.
He also owns a 19% stake in Canmax Technologies with his wife, according to the company's filing in December 2025. About 8% of this stake is pledged and removed from the calculation.
The value of his cash investments is based on an analysis of dividends, insider transactions, taxes and market performance.
Elaine Huang, a spokeswoman for the company, declined to comment on the billionaire's net worth.
Pei was born in Jiangsu, China in 1959 and worked in a textile lab before founding Suzhou TA&A Ultra Clean Technology in 1997.
He has a MBA degree from China Europe International Business School, according to Suzhou TA&A's 2014 prospectus. Suzhou TA&A started trading on the Shenzhen stock exchange in 2014.
Pei began investing in the electric vehicle battery business CATL in 2015. CATL would become the largest supplier of electric vehicle batteries in the world.
