The majority of Yi's fortune is derived from his 36% stake in Hithink RoyalFlush Information Network, a provider of securities trading tools and financial information. The Hangzhou, Zhejiang-based company provides services to more than 90% of the securities companies in China, according to the its website.

He owns the stake directly, according to the company's 2025 third-quarter report.

Biography

Education: Zhejiang University

Yi was born in 1970 in Beijing. He graduated from Zhejiang University with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering in 1993. Before Yi's graduation, he was invited by a Hangzhou, Zhejiang-based security company to develop an analytical system for securities.

Even though Yi suffered a loss from this software development project, he realized the demand for financial information software in China. In 1994, Yi co-founded Hangzhou Hexin company with Ye Qiongjiu. He contributed 250,000 yuan cash and 150,000 yuan worth of computational devices to set up the company. The company developed the "Longhubang" software, which literally means "rankings of dragons and tigers" in Chinese, to track the trading volume of securities.

In 1997, as a local branch of Huarong Finance Holdings rolled out online security trading in China. The company soon launched an online security analysis and trading tool about a month after, laying the foundation for the company's business.

Hithink RoyalFlush Information Network was listed in the Shenzhen stock exchange in December 2009 and became the first listed online financial information service provider in China.
