Born in Oak Brook, Illinois, Shah started his entrepreneurial path at the age of 5, selling hand-painted drawings door to door. Shah studied at Northwestern University where he founded the Northwestern Business Review, a business magazine distributed to more than 60 college campuses.

In 2006, while studying at Northwestern, Shah started ContextMedia with his co-founder Shradha Agarwal. He later dropped out of college to pursue the company.

The company merged with its competitor AccentHealth in November 2016 and later changed its name to Outcome Health. The company's health care information services are available in more than 55,000 doctors' offices and health care locations. On May 31, 2017 Outcome Health announced its first-ever round of funding. The $500 million funding round values the company at $5.5 billion, according to a Bloomberg News article.
