Confidence rating:

The majority of Powell Jobs's fortune derives from her control of stakes in two publicly traded companies: Walt Disney and Apple. Powell Jobs controls her 4 percent interest in Disney through family trusts, according to a Jan. 13, 2017, filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Her Apple stake is based on husband and company founder Steve Jobs's stake at the time of his death in 2011, as reported in Apple's February 2012 proxy statement. The shares represent less than 1 percent of the business and are no longer reported. Powell Jobs is calculated in Bloomberg's analysis not to have sold any since 2012 and her holdings have been adjusted to reflect the company's 7-for-1 stock split in 2014.

She reduced her Disney stake by half during 2016, according to a January 2017 13G filing. The sale is reflected in the analysis as a $6.2 billion inflow and based on the average price during the year. The net worth calculation also includes dividends of more than $1.2 billion, based on an analysis of Bloomberg data.

The value of her cash investments includes these proceeds, the effect of taxes, interest and market performance, and investments she's made since the sale of the Disney shares, some of them through her philanthropic organization, the Emerson Collective. These include stakes in Atlantic magazine and at least 19 other businesses, including Truphone, CrowdMed and virtual reality business Within, according to investor database Crunchbase. She anonymously gave $526 million to a charitable foundation in 2016, which was deducted from her cash on March 14, 2018, when it was revealed by Bloomberg News.

She agreed to acquire a 20 percent stake in Monumental Sports & Entertainment, owner of the Washington Wizards NBA team, in October 2017, according to a Bloomberg News report. The asset is valued at its reported investment cost.

Amy Low, a spokeswoman for Powell Jobs, didn't respond to requests for comment on the net wealth calculation in January 2018.
