Fisher is the founder and chairman of Fisher Investments, a closely held investment adviser that had about $386 billion of assets under management as of Dec. 31, 2025. The Plano, Texas-based company has offices in the US, the UK, Europe, Asia, Australia and the Middle East and provides advice to about 195,000 clients.

In June 2024, Fisher agreed to sell a minority stake in the business to private equity firm Advent International and a unit of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. The deal, which closed in January 2025, valued the business at $12.75 billion. Fisher continues to own more than 70% of the firm's voting shares, according to a Jan. 7, 2025 press release. His stake is valued at the sale price.
Fisher was born in San Francisco, California in 1950. His father, Philip, wrote one of the first investment books to appear on the New York Times best-seller list, according to his obituary in the paper. From a young age Ken was interested in history and forestry, and enrolled at Humboldt State University, now named Cal Poly Humboldt, to study redwood trees, according to the school. He graduated with a degree in economics in 1972.
Fisher founded Fisher Investments, an investment advising firm, with roughly $250 in 1979, according to Investopedia. He published his first book, "Super Stocks," in 1984. The book popularized the price-to-sales ratio, a common tool for investment analysis.
He lives in Dallas, Texas with his wife.
