Israel Squandering Opportunity in Lebanon, Analyst Warns
"Lebanon could be turned into a primary front with Israel just digging deeper," warns RAND's Shira Efron, as fighting continues between Israel and Iran-backed Hezbollah militants in the southern part of the country. Last week, Defense Minister Israel Katz said Israel plans to hold a security zone up to Lebanon's Litani River. "It is not an occupation at the moment," says Efron, "but it could turn into one." "Israel has a partner in Lebanon. If Israel occupies parts of Lebanon, it's going to lose the partner," she adds.
