New Maldives’ President Mohamed Muizzu, known for his pro-China stance, said his predecessor Mohammed Solih granted India unchecked sway over the island nation’s affairs by allowing Indian troops to be stationed there. Now, after less than a month in office, Muizzu is navigating a tug-of-war between India and China. He also finds himself on the frontlines of climate change. In less than 30 years, 80% of the Maldives could be uninhabitable.
