This company pays its employees to get a full night’s sleep. Crazy, a Japanese wedding organizer, believes rest is the key to productivity. Employees who sleep at least six hours a night, for at least five days a week, are awarded points. These can be exchanged for food in the office cafeteria worth as much as 64,000 yen ($570) per year. Nightly rest is tracked using an app made by Airweave, a mattress manufacturer. More than 92% of Japanese over the age of 20 say they aren’t getting enough sleep, reports a Fuji Ryoki survey. The country has become notorious for a phenomenon called death-from-overwork. The office burnout culture has been blamed on a labor shortage, And a long-held cultural belief of noble sacrifice for the corporate good. Crazy’s CEO says his sleep-reward system leads to happier employees and improved office performance. He now hopes to reach millions across Japan with his health-driven office model.
