Japan: Journalist Goto Probable Jihadist Video Victim
Journalist Kenji Goto probably was the victim shown in a jihadist video, Japan’s government said, as Islamic State carried out its threat to execute him after a bid for a prisoner exchange with Jordan failed. Islamic militants released a video purportedly showing the beheading of Goto, according to SITE Intel Group, which monitors jihadist social media. Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said at a Sunday morning press briefing that it’s highly probable the video was the work of Islamic State and that Goto was the person shown being killed.
