The practice of public universities paying large speaking fees to actors and politicians has drawn scrutiny after students at UNLV protested Hillary Clinton’s $225,000 honorarium in June. Student fees at the University of Florida — which pay for the speakers — have increased more than 450 percent since 1994, outpacing the 175 percent rise in tuition, state data show.
