While it’s not the first Tesla — that would be the Roadster — the S is the model that made the brand. Introduced a decade ago, the Tesla Model S proved that electric vehicles could sell as luxury performance cars, with over 20,000 units sold worldwide in its first year. It wowed critics, winning Motor Trend Car of the Year in 2013, and giving Tesla the revenue (and investor confidence) it needed to produce more models.
