Wisconsin’s 10 electoral votes are thought to be in play in the 2020 presidential race. After Barack Obama carried the state in 2012, Donald Trump won by less than 1 percentage point in 2016. This year, the Cook Political Report has rated the race as “lean Democrat.”
If the contest is close, Wisconsin is unlikely to report a winner on election night. The state has received a large number of mail-in ballots and will not start processing them until the polls open. State law allows ballots to be counted so long as they are received by 8 p.m. on Nov. 3.
