2020 North Carolina Election Results

The presidential race in North Carolina, where 15 electoral votes are at stake, has been rated a “toss up” by the Cook Political Report. While Donald Trump won the state by 3.7 percentage points in 2016, polls show a tight race this year. A winner is unlikely to be declared on election night if the race is close, given how many voters are casting ballots by mail.

North Carolina also has a contentious Senate race this year between incumbent Republican Thom Tillis and Democrat Cal Cunningham. The Cook Political Report has rated the race a “toss-up,” and even late-campaign surprises have not moved the numbers much either way.

In the House, voters will be casting their ballots in new districts because a court ordered North Carolina to redraw its maps in late 2019. The new map seeks to reverse a partisan gerrymander favoring Republicans and gives Democrats the chance to pick up two additional seats.
