2020 Maine Election Results

Maine is one of two states, along with Nebraska, that doesn’t employ a winner-take-all system to allocate electoral votes. The state gives one electoral vote to the candidate who receives the most votes in each of its two congressional districts, and two votes to the statewide winner. In 2016, Donald Trump picked up one electoral vote from Maine’s 2nd congressional district, and the Cook Political Report has rated the race for the district’s electoral vote this year a “toss up.” Joe Biden is favored to pick up the additional three electoral votes.

Maine’s Senate race has also been rated a “toss up” as incumbent Republican Susan Collins seeks a further term against Democrat Sara Gideon. Collins, who won her last election with almost 70% of the vote, has seen her high approval ratings in the state deteriorate alongside Trump’s.
