Accessing Liquidity in Emerging Markets
August 26, 2015
Earlier this week, Sri Lanka’s leading brokerage company NDB Securities announced its adoption of Bloomberg Execution Management System (EMSX) for direct routing of orders with the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE).
Using Bloomberg EMSX, global investors can now access equities listed on the CSE with better quality, speed and efficiency via NDB Securities’ automated order placement facility.
“The collaboration of NDBS, IronOne and Bloomberg sets a new standard for investment execution and underscores our commitment to furthering the growth of Sri Lanka’s financial sector,” said Ms. Prasansani Mendis, Chief Executive Officer of NDB Securities (Pvt) Ltd. “We are constantly in pursuit of new opportunities and challenges that would enhance our service levels and we hope that the improved market access as a result of direct order routing will inspire greater confidence among foreign institutional investors to invest in Sri Lanka”
NDB Securities is a member of the Colombo Stock exchange, servicing both local and foreign investors, and the first local brokerage firm to automate order routing with real-time monitoring of trades.
Since 2005, Sri Lanka has quietly experienced a positive growth trajectory and foreign investment into the market continues. In an effort to diversify and boost returns across portfolios, global investors are increasingly looking to emerging and frontier markets for investment opportunities.
Growing enthusiasm for Sri Lankan stocks has resulted in net foreign inflows of almost 22.9 billion Sri Lankan rupees in 2013 and more than 20 billion rupees in 2014. Today, more than a third of investments in the CSE are from abroad with many global index and exchange traded funds having Sri Lankan exposures.
For an investor looking to trade equities with local brokers in emerging and frontier markets, Bloomberg EMSX offers a simple solution that connects to more than 2,500 broker destinations worldwide, helping investment managers discover liquidity and the best brokers and venues for execution.
For trading firms such as NDB Securities, EMSX offers access to global markets and the largest community of buy-side traders and portfolio managers.
As one of the fastest growing economies in South Asia, Sri Lanka, with its supportive government policies and strengthening corporate sector has the potential to become a key driver of pan-Indian Ocean economic growth.
As its financial market continues to develop, Bloomberg is committed to partnering local firms to deliver the best solutions that enable them to expand their businesses, adapt to new challenges and capitalize on investment opportunities.
