KBZ Bank, Bangkok Bank and Singapore Myanmar Investco to sponsor one-day event featuring the region’s most influential decision makers in Yangon, Myanmar
Yangon, February 28, 2017 – Bloomberg LIVE, the global events platform of Bloomberg Media, today announced the first-ever Bloomberg Invest Myanmar (BIM) Summit. The conference, which will be held at the Sedona Hotel in Yangon March 9, 2017, marks Bloomberg’s first event in Myanmar and represents a key part of Bloomberg LIVE’s agenda to drive meaningful conversations around the business and investment landscapes across Asia’s emerging economies.
“This is an opportune time for Bloomberg to launch this summit as investors and decision makers seek to filter out the noise and unlock the growth potential this country has to offer,” said Parry Ravindranathan, Managing Director, International, Bloomberg Media. “The BIM summit will convene investors, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, advisors and decision makers from the country and the region to spotlight the investment opportunities and potential risks as Myanmar pursues greater economic liberalization.”
“We are excited to sponsor Bloomberg’s inaugural summit in Yangon. Growing alongside the economy has been a vital mission for us given the importance of new financial services and greater financial inclusion in spurring economic advancement throughout Myanmar. Bloomberg has brought together key local and international leaders at this summit, providing an opportunity to discuss collaboration and the concrete steps needed to secure Myanmar’s future,” said Ms Nang Lang Kham, Executive Director at KBZ Bank.
The agenda is heavily focused on the pillars of economic growth with discussions centered on technology innovation, financial markets development, trade liberalization and regulatory reforms. Confirmed speakers at the summit include key executives from top regional and global institutions including H.E. Andrew Patrick, British Ambassador to Myanmar; H.E. Hong Liang, PR China Ambassador to Myanmar; Daw Win Win Tint, Managing Director of City Mart Holdings; U Zaw Zaw, Executive Chairman of Max Myanmar; Ms. Kesara Manchusree, President of The Stock Exchange of Thailand; U Htet Tay Za, Managing Director at AGD Bank; and Mr. Wouter Van Wersch, President & CEO of GE, ASEAN.
“Myanmar has undergone enormous change in the past few years: a historic election, currency market liberalization and, with the ending of U.S. economic sanctions, a concerted push to transform from over half a century of isolation to a more open trade and investment environment,” said Mark Miller, Editor, Bloomberg LIVE. “Myanmar has the unique advantage of learning from and building upon the successes of neighboring emerging economics.”
