On December 15, 2015, Landbridge Infrastructure Australia, Managing Director Mike Hughes told Senate's Economics References Committee, which is examining the port lease, that the company planned to -invest heavily across the Top End on the back of the China free-trade agreement. According to The Australian, Shandong Landbridge Group, the Chinese parent at the heart of the controversy over the 99-year lease of Darwin's port, plans to buy much more Australian infrastructure, including oil and gas facilities.
