Darren Walker on Getting Results in Philanthropy
In our latest Masters in Business podcast, we speak with Darren Walker, president of the $12.5 billion Ford Foundation.
Walker was born in a charity hospital in Lafayette, Louisiana, and raised by a single mother; he was one of the country’s first children to benefit from the Head Start Program. Walker, who worked as a lawyer and an investment banker, explained how the foundation raises money, selects which groups to back, issues grants and monitors results to track how effective each grant is.
