Davidson on Sports: A Football Player Comes Out, a Rout for Team USA
Here's what you missed last night in sports:
Breakthrough in Football
University of Missouri defensive end Michael Sam, an All-American projected to go in the early rounds of the NFL draft, came out last night and looks to be the first openly gay NFL player. Most of the early reaction has been incredibly positive.
Violence Has Consequences
Oklahoma State guard Marcus Smart was suspended three games for pushing a fan in the stands. Athletes have a responsibility not to react to fans, but if the man in question did in fact hurl racial slurs at Smart, suspending him is bad business.
The U.S. women's hockey team clinched a spot in the semifinals with its rout of Switzerland.
A report says USA Swimming allowed a coach to remain in high-profile positions despite numerous accusations of battery and molestation.
Thank You, Come Again
