April 1 (Bloomberg) -- U.S. Representative Henry Waxman, a California Democrat, speaks at a news conference about General Motors Co.'s recalls due to an ignition-switch defect linked to the deaths of 13 people and his plan to introduce a bill to boost penalties for automakers that fail to disclose defects in their vehicles. Senators Ed Markey of Massachusetts and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Representative Diana DeGette of Colorado and Joan Claybrook, former head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, also speak at the news conference in Washington with crash survivors and victims' families.
