Transferring money overseas can be expensive. Transferwise uses peer-to-peer technology to allow people to move money across borders for a very low fee – up to eight times cheaper than using a bank. The company has grown rapidly over the last 12 months following a $58 million Series C funding round in January, led by Andreessen Horowitz. Customers are now transferring more than £500 million each month through the platform, and the company employs 450 people across the world. It’s already possible to send money to 55 countries, but Transferwise plans to add New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan to its roster over the next six months.
