Dialing for Dollars

If you think you're already paying too much for an iPhone, be glad you're not an Apple fan in France or Germany.

The price of a 16-gigabyte iPhone 5 in those countries is about 40 percent more expensive than one sold in the U.S.

Bloomberg Rankings analyzed prices in 34 international stores Apple lists on its website. The prices were then converted to U.S. dollars on Sept. 3. Each slide also shows how much more expensive the iPhone costs in a particular country compared with the U.S., where Apple sells an unlocked phone without a mobile contract for $649.

Apple unveiled the iPhone 5S on Sept. 10 and also introduced a less expensive model appealing to budget-conscious customers. The new phones are expected to be released on Sept. 20. In the meantime, here's a ranking of 20 countries where the iPhone 5 is the most expensive. Find out which nation is the priciest place, where the cost is $368 more than the U.S.
