Ruukki Construction to Supply Steel Structures for Sixth Longest Bridge in Finland

Ruukki Construction is to supply the load-bearing steel structures for the Jännevirta bridge to be built spanning the Saimaa deep water channel at the boundary of Kuopio and the municipality of Siilinjärvi. The company's delivery also includes installation of the structures. When completed, the Jännevirta bridge will be 560 meters long and 15 meters wide, thus making it the sixth longest bridge in Finland. The company used steel made by SSAB to manufacture the load-bearing steel structures. The company began making the steel structures in January this year. Installation work started in April and is scheduled for completion at the turn of the year. Surface treatment is scheduled for summer 2018. The company is supplying a total of 2,430 tones of load-bearing structures for the bridge. These structures are being manufactured at the company's plant in Ylivieska, which specializes in the manufacture and installation of large steel structures used in buildings and bridges. Jännevirta bridge is scheduled for completion by the end of 2018.

Sami Eronen has been appointed Head of Ruukki Construction, a subsidiary of SSAB, as of December 1, 2016. Sami Eronen will report to the Board of Directors of Ruukki Construction Oy and to the President and CEO of SSAB, Martin Lindqvist. Sami Eronen joins Ruukki Construction from SSAB Europe division, where he is currently Head of Supply Chain Management and IT. Sami has a sound track record in the steel construction business. Before working for SSAB Europe he worked many years for Rautaruukki Corporation, where his responsibilities included the building projects business, building construction in Northern Europe and infrastructure construction. The interim head of Ruukki Construction, Jarmo Tonteri, will leave the company as of November 30, 2016.
