Kionix, Inc. Adds Embedded Functionality to its Line of High-Performance Accelerometers

Kionix, Inc. has added embedded functionality to its line of high-performance accelerometers. The new KX126 tri-axis accelerometer integrates a step detector and step counter. The trend towards embedding functionality directly in a sensor has benefits that go beyond simply providing an easy to use, turnkey pedometer solution. It also extends battery life. The KX126 is a high resolution (16-bit) tri-axis digital accelerometer that comes in an ultra-compact 2mm x 2mm x 0.9mm LGA package. It supports normal/fast/high-speed I2C communications up to 3.4MHz and SPI communication up to 10MHz, range settings of +/- 2g, 4g, and 8g, accurate timing over temperature, and configurable low-noise and low-power modes. In addition to pedometer functionality, a 2,048- byte FIFO buffer is built in that can capture seconds or minutes of motion data while the rest of the system sleeps. Other key features include high sampling rates (up to 25.6kHz) that allow detection and capture of fast, high frequency motions and a high-resolution wake-up/motion detection algorithm capable of detecting as little as 3.9mg of motion. Also, highly customizable embedded digital engines allow for automated detection of tilt, freefall, screen orientation changes, and tap/double-tap events.

Kionix, Inc. Announces Immediate Sample Availability of KXG07 and the KXG08

Kionix, Inc. announced immediate sample availability of two new 6-axis Accelerometer-Gyroscope combos: the KXG07 and the KXG08. The KXG07 and KXG08 incorporate a newly developed, proprietary technology which dramatically lowers the power consumption of the gyroscope. The KXG08 is packaged in a conventional 2.5mm x 3mm x 0.9mm 14-pin LGA, while the KXG07 is offered in a 3mm x 3mm x 0.9mm 16-pin LGA package with footprint compatible with many of Kionix's discrete accelerometers. These new solutions enable full high-speed operation of the onboard accelerometer, gyroscope, and temperature sensor at low-power consumption levels as low as 0.2mA. This reduces sensor power consumption over comparable devices and brings the combined operation of the gyroscope and accelerometer to levels traditionally associated with standalone accelerometers. These products include synchronization functionality, a 4,096-byte buffer and support for controlling and acquiring data from external sensors.

Kionix, Inc. Announces Higher g-Range Accelerometers

Kionix, Inc. announced accelerometers with higher g-ranges, higher bandwidths, 25.6KHz sampling rates and improvements in its already robust shock-resistant MEMS elements. The KX222 and KX224 are 2mm x 2mm footprint and 3mm x 3mm footprint accelerometers designed to address a demand for increased capabilities by offering expanded measurement ranges in both amplitude and frequency. The KX222 and KX224 offer user-configurable g-ranges of ±8g, ±16g and ±32g. Where many accelerometers have mechanical resonances on the order of 1-2kHz, these new accelerometers offer higher bandwidths with mechanical resonances up to 6kHz. To make use of these higher bandwidths and offer finer frequency resolution, sampling rates up to 25.6kHz are available. Additionally, the mechanical MEMS structures in KX222 and KX224 are built specifically for shock resistance and resilience in order to operate reliably in higher shock environments.
