MIM Software Inc. announced it has received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for post-treatment dosimetry of Yttrium-90 (Y90) microspheres. Yttrium-90 microspheres deliver local radiation as permanent brachytherapy implants to tumors in the liver. Currently, PET or SPECT images are obtained after treatment to verify the distribution of microspheres. Now, absorbed dose from the Y90 microspheres can be calculated on a voxel-by-voxel basis using the PET or SPECT images. MIM SurePlan™ LiverY90 provides timesaving tools for liver and tumor segmentation, deformable registration, and allows patient-specific dose calculation on Y90 PET and Bremsstrahlung SPECT images after administration of permanent Y90 microsphere implants. The absorbed dose can be calculated for tumors and the liver to help provide important additional information to the clinician. Three methods are available for dose calculation: Local Deposition Model, Local Deposition Model with scaling for known injected activity, and the Voxel S Value approach based on the schema in MIRD Pamphlet No. 17. All three methods are available for PET while only the Local Deposition Model with scaling for known activity is available for SPECT images that are not in Becquerel per milliliter (Bq/ml). MIM Software will demonstrate MIM SurePlan LiverY90 at the 2017 Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting November 26-30 in Chicago. MIM Software Inc. announced significant updates to its MIM Encore solution. MIM Encore is a vendor-neutral application for viewing PET/CT, SPECT/CT PET/MRI, and general nuclear medicine images. Physicians and technologists can streamline the nuclear medicine workflow by viewing and processing images in tandem using this single platform solution. The update includes various enhancements and new features such as enhanced display management tools for quick swapping of n number of follow-up exams, dedicated reports for tracking each patient's findings for referrers, a new dictation software integration focused on transferring findings statistics to reports, new contouring tools, and much more. Some of the institutions currently utilizing MIM Encore clinically include Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, Mayo Clinic, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Stanford Health Care, UAB Hospital, and the University of Virginia Health System.
