SNC-Lavalin Part of the Nouvlr General Partnership, finalizes Contract Agreement Relating to the Engineering, Procurement and Construction of the Réseau Express Métropolitain

SNC-Lavalin announced that NouvLR General Partnership, whose partners consist of SNC-Lavalin, Dragados Canada, Inc., Groupe Aecon Québec Ltée, Pomerleau Inc. and EBC Inc., has reached contract close on the Réseau express métropolitain project. NouvLR General Partnership, of which SNC-Lavalin is a 24% partner, finalized an agreement with Projet REM S.E.C., an affiliate of CDPQ Infra Inc., for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction of the Réseau express métropolitain project. On April 12, 2018 NouvLR entered into a fixed price contract worth approximately five billion dollars. The Réseau express métropolitain is an electric and fully automated light rail transit network designed to facilitate mobility across the Greater Montreal Region. Spanning 67 kilometres of double track and boasting 26 stations, it will link the South Shore, North Shore, West Island, downtown Montreal, and the Pierre-Elliot Trudeau Airport. It will also connect with existing bus networks, commuter trains and with the Montréal metro Blue, Green and Orange lines. Stations will be accessible by foot, bike, cars and taxis, integrate universal mobility options, connect to bus stations and park and ride lots, and will offer passengers a variety of travel options between home and the station. Under the leadership of NouvLR General Partnership, the Lemay Perkins + Will Bisson Fortin Architectes consortium developed the Charter of Infrastructure Design and Urban Integration that will facilitate the network's integration with a wide variety of neighbourhoods, reflecting each site's unique persona. A first in Canada, this was accomplished by pooling the knowledge and experience of seasoned professionals from various disciplines such as architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, graphic design, engineering and construction. The Réseau express métropolitain is the newest of long series of signature LRT infrastructure projects in which SNC-Lavalin has been involved in Canada, which include the Eglinton Crosstown LRT project, Confederation Line project, the Evergreen Line and the Canada Line.

Aecon Partnership Finalizes Contract for Site C Generating Station and Spillways Civil Works

A partnership between Aecon, Flatiron Constructors Canada Limited, Dragados Canada, Inc., and EBC Inc. (AFDE Partnership) has signed the contract with BC Hydro for the Site C Generating Station and Spillways (GSS) Civil Works. Valued at $1.6 billion, the GSS Civil Works is one of the large contracts to be awarded for the Site C Project – a hydroelectric dam and generating station under construction on the Peace River in northeast British Columbia. Aecon is Managing Partner of the consortium and holds a 30% share of the partnership, which was previously selected as preferred proponent for the project. AFDE Partnership's scope of work includes the delivery of civil works associated with the powerhouse, penstocks, spillways and power intakes, plus related ancillary construction work. The project will include the placement of approximately 700,000 cubic meters of mass and reinforced concrete, 34,000 tons of rebar, and over 11,000 tons of steel. The powerhouse will contain six generators with a combined capacity of 1,100 megawatts, with corresponding intake structures connected to the powerhouse via 80 m-long 10-m diameter penstocks. AFDE Partnership has signed a Project Labour Agreement for this work with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 115, the Construction and Specialized Workers Union (CSWU) Local 1611 and the Construction Maintenance and Allied Workers (CMAW). As part of this agreement, AFDE Partnership has committed to prioritize hiring locally and within British Columbia, as well as providing opportunities for apprentices. This includes a goal of up to 25% apprenticeships on the project. There are also targets for Indigenous apprentices and employment. Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2018, with work expected to be completed in early 2023. At the peak of construction in 2021, there will be approximately 1,600 people working on the GSS civil works. AFDE Partnership will work with local, regional, and Indigenous businesses on supplier and subcontracting opportunities.
